DO YOU HAVE A JEWELRY STRATEGY?
This sounds more serious than it is, but I really think everyone should have one.
For me, there are two rules.
1. Decide where your jewelry goes when you take it off.
A catch-all beside your bed. One in the bathroom. Your jewelry box. Your safe. Whatever makes sense for your life.
The important part is that it’s always the same place.
I personally keep catch-alls on my nightstand, in my bathroom and on my desk — the three places I’m most likely to take something off. If I remove a ring, necklace or pair of earrings, it goes in one of those spots. No random piles. No “I swear I left it here.” Have a solid plan for where your jewelry goes when you take it off.
2. Put a jewelry pouch in every bag you use.
Whenever you buy jewelry and it comes in a small velvet pouch, keep it.
Put one in your everyday bag, your work bag, your weekender, your carry-on — anywhere you might suddenly need to take your jewelry off.
Doctor’s appointment. Workout. Security. Travel. Whatever.
That way, you always have somewhere safe to put it instead of putting it in the bottom of your purse and hoping for the best. Put a jewelry pouch in every bag you use.
It’s a very small system, but it makes losing jewelry a lot harder.
Know where it goes at home. Give it somewhere to go when you’re out.
